Main Street Collierville Named Quarterfinalist for “America’s Main Streets” Contest

Support Main Street Collierville and The Collierville Town Square by Voting Today

Collierville, Tenn. –The national small business movement, Independent We Stand, has announced that Main Street Collierville is a quarterfinalists in the 2018 “America’s Main Streets” as the only main street community in Tennessee. As the lifeblood of our cities and towns, Main Streets play an important role in the long-­term success of communities and help build a sense of place. Independent We Stand invites the public to vote for their favorite quarterfinalist and move a deserving Main Street one step closer to the grand prize of $25,000.

Now in it’s third year of recognizing “America’s Best Main Street,” Independent We Stand has opened up voting for the top 25 Main Street communities in the nation. Main Street Collierville was one of 303 original nominees for this award. The field is now down to the top 25. Voting for the quarterfinals opened Monday, April 30 at 10 am and will continue through May 27. To vote for “America’s Main Streets” semifinalists, visit MainStreetContest.com.

The top 10 semifinalists will be announced May 28. The winner of the 2018 “America’s Main Streets” contest will be announced June 4 followed by a “Main Streets Make Us Better” celebration on the Fourth of July. The winner will receive $25,000 as well as a STIHL equipment certificate for$1000 worth of STIHL equipment good at any STIHL dealer in the US, Do it Best Corp $500 shopping spree, and PPG Paints $500 shopping spree.

“This prize money would make a huge difference in the budget of our nonprofit organization,” explains Amanda Harris, executive director of Main Street Collierville. “Twenty-­five thousand dollars would go a long way in as we continue to enhance and promote the Town Square area with our annual Summer Concert Series and plan an upcoming grant program to help business owners in the historic district make improvements to their existing structures.”

Now in it’s 25th year as a nonprofit, Main Street Collierville is the heart of Collierville, thriving with family-­friendly events, shopping, great restaurants, and an enriched southern history. Main Street Collierville is dedicated to beautification and preservation of our historic square and supports a four-­point approach to preserving and enhancing the town square, which includes -­ enhancing the physical elements of downtown by capitalizing on the uniqueness and charm of the area, promoting economic vitality of the area by creating a supportive business environment for small business owners who make up the businesses on the square, promoting the square and the events and business there, and ensuring that all the organizational resources are in place to meet these goals. Main Street Collierville is also widely known for putting on its free Summer Concert Series to the public on Thursday nights in June and July of each year. As one of more than 1,600 Main Street Communities across the nation Main Street Collierville has been nationally recognized for excellence in preserving the landmarks of the past which making it a vibrant part of the town’s future.
