Partners in Preservation Party…Shaking Things Up

Main Street Collierville’s 15th Annual Partners in Preservation Party & Taste of the Town held Saturday, September 22, on Collierville’s Historic Town Square was a huge success!  The theme for this year’s party was “All Shook Up on the Square!” in recognition of the 30th Anniversary of Elvis’ death.  The event drew record crowds wearing chops, poodle skirts and even a few sequined jumpsuits.  “This year’s event was the best fundraiser yet,” stated Laura Todd, Executive Director of Main Street Collierville.  “We were able to raise more than $43,000.00.”

Collierville’s own Elvis impersonator, Danny Box, opened the night with several Elvis favorites while crowds wondered in and visited the 25 restaurants which offered some of the best cuisine by area restaurants or stop for a quick keepsake photo (event photos can be seen at www.flickr.com/knophotograpy).  Tables of silent auction items donated by area businesses were displayed in tents outside.

Guests voted and chose the Crepe Maker of Collierville with best decoration and best food.  Huey’s of Collierville won the “Best Elvis Impersonation” with the Elvis Three doing a dance routine.

“The purpose of these events is not only for the community and social aspect,” stated Laura Todd, Executive Director of Main Street, “but also to bring focus to the Square and Historic District so that our children and grandchildren will be able to enjoy and appreciate their heritage.”  Todd continued, “Those who visit the Square leave with a sense of appreciation for small-town wholesomeness.  It is vital that we preserve that heritage by attracting people to the Square.”

The Preservation Party was made possible through sponsorships from SunTrust Bank, AIMS Logistics, Renasant Bank, Patriot Bank, American National Insurance, Memphis Grizzlies, Pepsi Americas, Zolo Wines, United Liquors, Southwest Beverages, Farmer’s Promotions and, of course, Graceland and Elvis Presley Enterprises.  The event each year is organized by a committee of community volunteers: Joyce McKenzie, Chair; Shari McNeil, Becky Hammond, Katie Maxey, Candy Craig, Deborah Brooks, Polly Shipley, Tony Sarwar., Kyle Curan, Bill Cox, Dave Nelson, Mano Boyadjian, Jeff Elsworth, Kevin Perkins, and Logan Walker.

Anyone interested in making an auction contribution or becoming a sponsor of next year’s event can contact the Main Street Collierville office at 853-1666 or email mnstreetcv@aol.com.  You can also find out more about Main Street Collierville at www.mainstreetcollierville.org.
